We are a bit different at Tails2Talons. You won't find white coats and professional headshots here. No siree, we scrolled through our phones, past the 471 photos of our pets, to find one photo of ourselves and put it on here for you to see.
Dr. Matthew Whitford
- legally the owner, but my service dog (in the photo) Artemis is the real boss and goes EVERYWHERE with me.

- Education
- Undergrad - East Carolina University
- Vet School - Virginia Tech - graduated 2021
- Experience
- I was a vet tech for 7 years before going to vet school.
- I have owned or do still own the following
- dog, cat, bearded dragon, ornamental fish, aquaculture fish (tilapia), hamster, gerbil, turtle, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something else.
- I have been practicing in the Lookout Mountain area since 2021
Stephanie Moss
Office Manager and Vet Assistant and Inventory manager and Receptionist and Chief Janitor and Veterinarian Babysitter
- This business would not exist without Steph encouraging me the whole way (and doing a lot of the paperwork). Yeah, sometimes encouragement sounds like yelling and shoving it in my face how little I got done while she worked her butt off, but that is exactly what I needed at the time.
- Stephanie is one of the most dependable people I know. When she says she will do it, it will be done. I am quite jaded with this topic in life, so when I say it, know that I set that bar very high and Steph has never failed to soar over it.
- Annoyingly hard worker. Seriously, I feel like a lazy piece of... well.. lets just say no matter how much I have on my plate every day, I always seem to look over at her and see a casserole dish.
Allison Touchstone
Vet Assistant and Resident Snow White and Resident Jiminy Cricket and Resident Dory - Basically Resident Disney Character...
- Resident Snow White - Allison makes animals feel more comfortable than anyone else I have ever met. It is annoying, but helpful, how easy it is for her to get the angry dog or terrified bird to do exactly what it needs to do to get better.
- Resident Jiminy Cricket - Allison is our moral conscience. She is a north star to the right decision. When we are not sure if we did/are doing the right thing, we tell Allison. Then we watch her body language and facial expressions to see if we messed up. She's still so nice she will likely say, "well, that is tough... I don't know...". That is Allison for, "you idiot, that wasn't even close to right!"
- Resident Dory - Allison will go all the way to P. Sherman 42 Wallaby Way, Sydney for any stranger she meets. While she may forget what you just said 5 minutes ago, she always manages to remind you of who you are.
Ruthie Towns
Honorary Member
- While Ruthie is not TECHNICALLY staff, we could easily guilt her into helping anytime we need her.
- Ruthie is a core member of our friend group and was once an excellent Vet Assistant too.
- We love her (and she gets a staff discount) so she has to be on this page. done. I have decreed it.
